How can we help?

Most questions have a quick answer. Take a look at the common questions below first. If yours isn’t there, just send us an email.

Common questions

How do I get into Friens?

Friens only works with a friend code. You get one from someone who is already on Friens, as a code, a link or a QR code. Open the app and enter the code or tap the link. Then create your account with email or Apple. Each code works for one person only, and afterwards you are friends right away. If you don’t know anyone on Friens yet, ask around among your friends.

What does the face scan do, and what happens to my data?

With the face scan you show once that you are a real person. It is a liveness check, not face recognition. The scan runs entirely on your iPhone. The camera image and face data never leave the device and are not stored. We only receive the result, meaning whether the check passed. After that we only remember that and when you were verified. You can remove the verification in the app at any time. The face scan needs an iPhone with Face ID. Without one, you can verify with World ID instead.

Who can see my location?

Friens only uses your location while the app is open, and only for things you start yourself. In Nearby, others never see your exact spot, only whether you are close. You only become visible there when you turn it on. You share your live location only with the people at a meetup, and only for as long as you choose. After that it is deleted. You can change location access at any time in your phone’s settings.

How do I add friends?

Go to Friends and tap “Invite friends”. That’s where your codes are. Share one as a link or let someone scan the QR code. You have up to five codes. When one is used, a new one arrives 30 days later. If you are standing next to each other, it’s even faster on iPhone: just hold your phones together.

I don’t get any notifications. What can I do?

Friens lets you know when someone invites you, when friends say yes and when it’s time to leave for a meetup. First check in the app under Me → Settings that notifications are on. Then check in your phone’s settings that notifications are allowed for Friens. If you signed out on all devices, notifications only come back once you sign in again.

How do I report or block someone?

Open the person’s profile, or press and hold them in Nearby. You’ll find “Report” and “Block” there. You can also report meetups, events, neighbourhood posts and hellos. When you report someone, they are blocked for you right away. They won’t find out who reported them, and a real person on our team reviews the report. Under Me → Account → Blocked people you can unblock people again.

How do I delete my account and my data?

In the app, go to Me, scroll to the bottom, tap “Delete account” and confirm. Your account is gone immediately and for good. This deletes your profile, your friendships, your meetups, check-ins and posts in groups. Our backups still contain the data for up to 14 days. If you can’t get into the app anymore, email us from the address of your account.

I’m an organizer. How do my events get into the app?

Create a free account at organizers.friens.app. Once we have approved it, you can add your events. We take a quick look at every event before it shows up in the app. Afterwards you can see how often it was viewed, saved and joined.

You can read more about your data in the privacy policy, and the rules for everyone in the community guidelines.

Write to us

Your question wasn’t there, or something isn’t working? Send us an email. Friens is run by a small team, and we read every message ourselves.

leonardo@friens.app

We usually reply within one or two working days.

It helps if you tell us which phone you use. If it’s about your account, write from the email address you use for Friens.

Safety or abuse

Is someone harassing you, did you see something dangerous or find a security issue? Write to the same address with the subject “Safety”. We handle these messages first. You don’t need an account for this.

Report a safety issue

If you are in danger, call the emergency number 112 right away. Friens is not an emergency service.
